Check your Syracuse email account on a regular basis so you do not miss important communications from the University.

Tasks for all new students

  • Activate your NetID. Visit for more information.

  • Log into your Syracuse email account and check it often. Visit for more information.

  • Due June 1: Complete your housing application if you plan to live on campus. It is recommended that you complete your application upon matriculation. Visit the MySlice My Housing portal for more information.

  • Take all applicable online placement exams before registering for your classes. Visit for more information.

  • Due June 15: Complete your First-Term Enrollment Selections. Visit for more information about your school or college's process. (First-year students only)

  • RSVP for a New Student Send-Off in your area. Visit for more information.

  •  Due July 1: Complete your Health Service Requirements. Visit for more information. Click here for the Health Services Requirements Tutorial.

  • Check your Financial Aid To-Do-List and complete any tasks to ensure financial aid appears on your bill. Access your financial aid account through MySlice.

  • Due July 15: Register and request accommodations for a documented disability with the Office of Disability Services. Visit for more information. (Preferred deadline)

  • Due July 15: Register for a pre-orientation program. Visit for more information.

  • Due August 1: Download your Move-In Pass on MySlice. The system on MySlice will be available starting at 12pm EST on July 19. Visit for more information about new student move-in. (For students living on-campus only)

  • Due August 1: Submit your final, official high school transcript with your date of graduation. Mail to:

  • Due August 1: Upload your photo for your SU I.D. Card through the Photo Upload website.

  • Due August 1: Rent a microfridge from the SU Bookstore. Visit for more information.

  • Available on August 1, update your profile in Orange SUccess, the University's web-based advising tool.  Visit for more information.. 

  • Pay your tuition. Questions? Contact the Bursar Office at or 315-443-2444.
  • Reserve your textbooks from the SU Bookstore. Visit for more information.

  • Sign up for Orange Alert, the University's crisis notification system on MySlice.

  • Complete the emergency contact information section on MySlice. The University does not require that this contact be a parent or guardian; it can be another relative or even a friend.

  • Sign up for direct deposit on MySlice for a convenient way to receive refunds or on-campus paychecks.

  • Due September 1: The Think About It online training will be available later this summer. Visit for more information. (Please note that failure to complete Think About It will affect your ability to register for spring 2018 classes.)

  • Due September 18: Complete the Student Health Insurance Requirement Waiver Form. Visit for more information.

  • Purchase your student season ticket package for basketball and football. Visit for more information.

Transfer student additional tasks

  • Complete the transfer student course selection and registration process for your home school or college. Visit for more information about your school or college's process.
  • Join the Syracuse University Transfer 2017-18 Facebook page to meet your fellow transfer students and the Transfer Transitions Leaders.
  • Submit your final transcript from your previous institution to Syracuse University and your home school or college.

Student veteran additional tasks

  • Complete the Student Health Insurance Requirement Waiver Form. You can submit a copy of your VA ID Card or Active-Duty ID card to waive the Health Insurance Requirement. Visit for more information.
  • Complete you housing application if you plan to live on-campus. If you would like to live in the Veteran-block of housing after the June 1 deadline, email Eileen Simmons to inquire about the capacity of the Veteran and Military Housing.
  • Complete the Request for Benefit Certification form from the Veterans Resource Center. You will need to make this request every semester you request benefits. There is not a separate application for Yellow Ribbon benefits; you will be awarded Yellow Ribbon automatically if eligible.
  • Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the Veterans Resource Center. The VA form 22-1990 or 22-1990E can be completed online through the Veterans Online Application (VONAPP). Questions? Email
  • Schedule an appointment with your VA VetSuccess On Campus (VSOC) Counselor, Kate Untiedt, to review possible benefits while you are attending training and discuss your transition to campus. Contact Kate Untiedt at 315.443.0177 or

  • Submit your Joint Service Transcript (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcripts to your home school or college to receive any applicable transfer credits for your military service.
